a5c7b9f00b Unemployed and newly-divorced Stephanie Plum lands a job at her cousin's bail-bond business, where her first assignment puts her on the trail of a wanted local cop from her romantic past. After losing her job, Jersey girl Stephanie Plum is broke. Needing a job she is told that her cousin, a bail bondsman, needs someone to help out in the office. But the only job openings he has are for skip tracers. She learns that Joe Morelli, a guy she knew intimately years ago, is one of the "skips". She eventually finds him but wasn't really prepared so he gets away. Another bounty hunter, Ranger, tries to teach her. Eventually she finds Morelli again, but he claims he is innocent of the crime he is accused of and he is trying to prove his innocence. Eventually Stephanie thinks he's telling the truth so she stakes out the person who can help him. She only finds herself in trouble and Morelli saves her. She tries to find someone who can prove his innocence, but the problem is that shortly after meeting with them they're killed or attacked. Honestly, I think that the reviews were too harsh on Katherine Heigl (Stephanie)'s movie outside of her role on Grey's Anatomy. She's a seasoned television actress but the movie role becomes her.

This is the second time, actually, that I watched this movie. Debbie Reynolds (as the Grandma Mazur) and Sherri Shepherd (as Lula) add great comedic highlights.

Thinking that most folks can identify being unemployed and looking for a new job -- anything to pay the bills (although we really don't want anything), it was a blessing to find her friend at one of the places she was applying for a file clerk role and the friend was a true friend (altough she didn't recognize her) by giving her a better role at the company. Just goes to show that we all do have friends in "low" places (in places that we least expect them to be).

The new role, a "cheesy" type of bounty hunter, sends her on quite an adventure with a spark of banter and romance. She takes her role seriously and tackles them with "grace".

Well worth the repeat view. Should have reviewed it back then, but happy to do so now in hopes to encourage you to give this movie a chance! The biggest problem with making a book into a movie is all of us who have read the book have a preconceived notion of what the characters look like and how they act and react. The point is some will not like the choices made in casting for a movie. I personally thought that the casting was good for One For the Money. I was a little disappointed with the final product. The audience reaction as mixed, many of the laughs throughout were scattered, I had the feeling that we who knew the books were getting the humor while others, such as my viewing partner, were not aware of the "inside" humor. It is unfortunate that Grandma Mazur was not developed more and the sexual play with Ranger was not brought out, but we do not have a 4 hour movie to totally reveal all in the book series that has delighted millions. As with most film trailers, most of the best scenes were already shown in the previews. It was a little shameless that the final minutes were advertisement for any sequels to come. I did enjoy the film overall, thought it was a little tamed down from Stephanie's extraordinarily insane and funny life, and will continue to look forward to any new adventures of Ms Plum. For all who have commented about the unrealistic premise about her being a Bounty Hunter, that is the whole concept of these delightful books. She's (Heigl) disastrously miscast as a character beloved by fans of novelist Janet Evanovich. Yes, this film is based on the worldwide best-selling 18-book mystery series by Janet Evanovic.
